Artist Statement I choose to photograph this apartment building in downtown Ann Arbor, due to it's lack of symmetry and repetition from the outside design. Due to the buildings height and width I choose to come closer to the buildings base and angle my camera upward to capture specific details. I wanted to convey confusion and question, to illustrate the buildings composition, and my own feeling when photographing.
Classic
Palace of peace
Overused
Artist statement For my second architecture photograph, I choose one of the churches in down town Ann Arbor. I love the simplicity in design of this structure, and the small color accents along the brick and windows. I chose this composition to show how enormous in size and the hidden detail as you got closer to the church.
No purpose but pretty
Professors Mansion
Go blue
Artist Statement One of the many benefits of living in Ann Arbor is how beautiful the university of Michigan campus is, these photographs are one of the many beautifully structured building on Michigan's campus. I chose this composition because of the windows sizes, shapes, and distribution. I liked how the windows were organized because it looks like a mixture of old and new architectural techniques. When looking at this building all I could think of was it's size being overwhelmingly big and bulky as if it had an ego, trying to intimidate people; in these photos I want to convey those feelings.
13th floor
eyesore
Shallow
Artist Statement This building is an apartment in down town Ann arbor on huron street. I chose this composition because I wanted to illustrate every aspect of the structures size. I also choose this building because of it's massive size and how much of an eye sore it is. Looking at this building it made me feel sad, it is so plain and vanilla compared to other structures, the only thing that makes it stand out is it's size. So when trying to convey a feeling, I wanted a empty ness due to the lack of personality; all it did was ruin historical homes and use unnecessary resources.
Tradition
Catholicism
Holy Spirit
Artist Statement This last structure was by far my most favorite to photograph, I love the colors, brick, unnecessary, and geometrical shapes working together in the design of this church building. Although it isn't very big this is also another church in Ann Arbor's downtown area. I chose this composition to show the different angles of the church and the symmetry involved in its own composition. I am trying to convey peace and the beauty in being original, not trying to be something more to gain attention.
