Artist Statement The portraits entitled "Spunk" and "Manager" are of my boss Brianna. I met Brianna when I first started working at Good Time Charley's in down town Ann Arbor. I photographed Brianna on the out door patio of my job, when I was on my regular shift. If you look close you can see the red paint of the restaurants wall. I chose to entitled the black and white photo "manager" because it's more classic and her emotion is warming; these qualities are what make her such a good manager. I named the second picture "Spunk" because the photograph captures a better understanding of Brianna's out going and spunky personality, which I got to know from working with her. I took the portraits on the outside patio because it had the best natural sunlight with a solid back round color. To capture the best angle of her face I had to be slightly taller so it would lengthen her neck and allow more detail to be seen. Challenges I faced was formal balancing, and alining the camera for a symmetrical rule of thirds. The weather was very cold outside so I tried photographing inside, but the lighting was too dark and yellow. Going outside lightened up the pictures and produced a more clear image. After taking many images with different angles, Brianna looked directly at the camera, which gave the best image, it increased the focus on her face enhancing specific details and framing herself symmetrically in the camera.
